Volunteer Spotlight: Doug Bello
“When we care for one another, the essence of kindness remains within us.” — First John 4:12
Doug Bello has been a dedicated volunteer at St. Vincent Meals on Wheels since the early 2000s. Over these nearly 25 years, Doug has witnessed the program grow into one of the largest privately funded senior nutrition programs in the United States, preparing and delivering nearly one million meals annually to the hungry and vulnerable in our city.
Says Doug, “it has been a great experience all these years, and continues to be!”
We are grateful to Doug for his devoted service as both a driver and a runner. As many of our clients often say, the runner’s face may be the only one they see that day or even that week. Many of our homebound seniors have remarked on Doug’s warm smile and the compassion that greets them when he arrives.
Doug’s presence is a reminder that a simple knock on the door and a smiling face are as essential as the nourishing meals we deliver. As part of our mission to provide both food and love, we thank Doug for making such a significant difference in the lives of those we serve. When we care for one another, the kindness we share remains, helping us all to thrive.
