The Daughters of Charity and St. Vincent Meals on Wheels: A Legacy of Food and Love
Throughout history, there have been countless stories of selfless service and resilience, but few are as impactful as that of the Daughters of Charity. With a mission rooted in humility, simplicity, and charity, the Daughters of Charity have served those in need for nearly four centuries. Their continuous journey to serve the poor inspires us, and we honor their exceptional legacy through ministries such as St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.
Arriving on the western edge of North America in the 1850s, the Daughters of Charity faced numerous adversities but found strength in their faith and mission. Their dedication to the underprivileged and vulnerable remains steadfast. The Daughters of Charity embody their founders’ vision—St. Vincent de Paul and St. Louise de Marillac’s invitation to serve the poorest and find Christ in their plight.
Today, over 47 years since the founding of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, Sister Alice Marie’s legacy continues to be nurtured by the Daughters of Charity. They oversee the mission to prepare and deliver nutritious meals to vulnerable and homebound Angelenos.
In this spirit, we honor the dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and everyone who serves the mission of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels every day. Their commitment to addressing hunger and loneliness among the homebound and underserved is a powerful reminder that where there is a need, there will be a compassionate response.
Together, we provide nourishment and human connection to vulnerable Angelenos, helping them continue to thrive.
