St. John’s University Students Join us to Volunteer

At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, we believe that by preparing and delivering food and love to seniors and other homebound and vulnerable individuals, we can make a difference in their lives—and our own.

Volunteering with us offers a unique opportunity to connect with the community on a deeper level. It’s not just about providing meals; it’s about extending care, listening to stories, and truly seeing the individuals we serve. Research shows that volunteering improves mental and physical health, reduces stress, and provides a purposeful sense of belonging.

Recently, St. John’s University in New York students traveled to Los Angeles for a few days to volunteer with us and at Hotel Dieu. Their enthusiastic participation highlighted the joys and impact of helping others.

Volunteering opens doors to new relationships and enriches your understanding of our community through diverse life stories. For instance, Melton, who is blind and lives alone, greatly appreciates the meal runner’s consistent kindness in placing his meal in the same spot so he can find it easily. Then there’s Mr. Brito, who recently lost his wife of 62 years and depends on us for meals, wellness checks, and a friendly smile.

By sharing your time and compassion with us, like the students of St. John’s University, you not only make a significant impact on the lives of individuals in need, like Melton and Mr. Brito, but also enrich your own life. Volunteering with St. Vincent Meals on Wheels can open the path to personal growth and fulfillment, illustrating the truth that in giving, we receive so much more in return. Join us in delivering food and love, and experience the power of service for both those you help and yourself.
