Small Acts of Kindness

“Fill the Hungry with Good Things” (Luke 1:53)

In the journey of life, small acts of kindness can make the biggest difference. At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, our dedicated volunteers embody this belief every day by delivering food and love to homebound, hungry seniors. Their commitment upholds the dignity, health, and independence of the most vulnerable among us.

With the Advent season upon us, it’s easy to become absorbed in gift-giving and celebration. However, it’s also a time to reflect on our core values and the deeper meaning of service. Our volunteers exemplify the spirit of community connection, demonstrating how even the smallest acts of support can have a powerful impact. For instance, when Caitlin learned it was a client’s birthday, she brightened their day by singing “Happy Birthday” when presenting a cake and a handmade, personalized card. Similarly, Amanda A. and Kimiko T. joined Caitlin to volunteer early on Thanksgiving morning to prepare holiday meals of roast turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and all the trimmings for our clients, many of whom are isolated and alone to enjoy. These seemingly small gestures ensure that not only are the “hungry filled with good things,” but also that the lives of those who volunteer their time are enriched as well.

We celebrate and honor the contributions of these generous women and countless others, who recognize that through service, they support those in need while filling their own lives with purpose and fulfillment. This holiday season and always, let us be inspired by their example to create a world that thrives on kindness, compassion, and service.
