Remebering Pope Francis
“The poor are not a burden; they are the heart of the Gospel.”
Pope Francis (1936-2025)
These days, following Easter- a time of both sorrow and celebration- we reflect on the passing of Pope Francis, a shepherd whose teachings have profoundly shaped our understanding of service and love. His call to see the poor not as a burden but as central to the Gospel resonates deeply within us at St. Vincent Meals on Wheels.
Pope Francis urged us to serve with “closeness, compassion, and tenderness,” asking the world to respond to those in need with courage and faith. Inspired to see and connect with each suffering individual, our mission is realized daily through the dedication of our devoted staff, selfless volunteers, and generous donors. Together, we stand united under the belief that “all are welcome,” serving people from every background, particularly the hungry, homebound, alone, and isolated.
Our mission transcends providing meals; it involves sharing love, respect, and dignity. In every interaction, we aim to go #BeyondTheMeal, listening and attending to those who are too often forgotten, restoring their dignity in a world frequently indifferent to their suffering.
Pope Francis’s forward-facing advocacy for a new, person-centered economics challenges us to reimagine how we value and uplift every individual. The mission of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels embodies this vision, enabling us to fulfill his promise by consistently connecting with and serving those who may be among the least recognized in society—ensuring they receive the best care and attention.
Our volunteers bring energy and compassion, delivering not just meals, but also companionship and hope. Similarly, our donors invest in our mission, making it possible for us to extend our reach and impact. Together, our volunteers and donors breathe life into our mission, making tangible and lasting change in countless lives.
As we continue this vital work, we carry forward Pope Francis’s legacy of kindness and attention to the poor, finding joy and purpose in each act of service. His teachings inspire us to view everyone we help not just as recipients of our care, but as vital parts of our greater family.
By fully embracing this path, we celebrate a world where compassion leads and every human soul is cherished and thrives.
