Reaching Out to Neighbors in Need
“We Are All Each Other’s Neighbor” Luke 10:25-37
At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, the belief that “we are all each other’s neighbor” deeply informs our mission and daily operations. This principle drives us to prepare and deliver over 100,000 nutritious meals each month to homebound seniors and other vulnerable residents across Los Angeles, regardless of age, illness, disability, race, religion, or ability to pay.
Each day, our staff and volunteers embody compassion and kindness, reaching out to neighbors in need. Their actions, which often go #BeyondtheMeal, teach us the importance of helping others without prejudice or expectation.
We deeply appreciate the donors and volunteers whose commitment to our neighbors reflects a profound sense of responsibility. Their generosity supports the hungry and homebound in our community, showcasing the transformative power of small acts of kindness. Like when SVMOW volunteer Caitlin B. sang “Happy Birthday” to a client at his door while delivering a birthday cake along with his regular meal, celebrating his special day and making him feel seen! Or when we delivered a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings to Helen G. along with a handmade greeting card!
Such acts encourage us all to seek opportunities to make a positive and joyful impact on the lives of others. Viewing each other as neighbors fosters a community anchored in compassion, kindness, responsibility, and good deeds.
Thank you for being part of our mission to deliver food and love. Our shared humanity thrives when we embrace the idea that we are all each other’s neighbors.
