At St. Vincent Meals on Wheels, our mission is to deliver both food and love to those who are homebound and hungry. A significant part of our work involves listening to the needs of our clients. To truly love means not just asking about someone’s struggles but also listening and responding with care. This belief guides us in our efforts to provide nourishment, health, and happiness.
By understanding our clients’ needs, we can prepare meals that help sustain their health and well-being. Many of our clients face specific medical challenges and, acknowledging this, our team of dietitians led by Kathy S. plans meals that reflect our commitment to crafting balanced dishes from top-quality ingredients, ensuring they are both nutritious and delicious. Each meal meets or exceeds federal and local nutritional standards, being rich in fiber and low in sugar.
We tailor meals according to individual medical guidelines, offering options like low-sodium meals, renal-friendly meals for kidney patients, and low vitamin K meals for those with heart conditions. For seniors who have difficulties chewing and swallowing, we provide soft pureed meals. In addition, we respect personal preferences by offering vegetarian dishes and making substitutions as needed.
Understanding that nutritious food only serves its purpose if it is enjoyed by our clients, our cooks led by Chef Carlos, work closely with our dietitians to create meals that taste good.
