Our Humble Garden

“And a harvest is sown in peace by those who make peace.” James 3:18

Eggplant and peppers and zucchini, oh my!

The mission of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is to prepare and deliver nutritious meals to our hungry and homebound neighbors, and in this pursuit, we share a culinary kinship with esteemed Los Angeles restaurants like Pez Coastal Kitchen, Alta Adams, and L’antica Pizzeria Da Michele who partner with us annually for fundraising events such as Food is Love and Hollywood Under The Stars. Just as these top-tier establishments thoughtfully curate fresh, organic fruits and vegetables to craft mouth-watering dishes for their diners every week, we too emphasize the best, fresh-grown produce from our humble yet bountiful garden, which is added to the mix of ingredients in the nutritious meals we prepare and deliver daily.

Reflecting on the wisdom of our beloved founder, Sister Alice Marie, who always said, “the poor deserve the best,” we are thrilled by the bountiful harvest from our own vegetable garden, which is carefully and lovingly attended by our thoughtful staff and volunteers. St. Vincent Meals on Wheels’ talented chefs and dietitians regularly incorporate these beautiful, nutrient-rich ingredients into meals prepared specially for our homebound clients. Many of these meals are medically tailored to meet specific dietary needs, such as renal, low-salt, and low-sugar requirements.

This humble yet abundant harvest helps us thrive while nourishing the clients we serve and fulfilling our commitment to food and love.
