Offering Compassion and Community to Those Who Might Otherwise be Overlooked
“Send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared.” — Nehemiah 8
The mission of St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is a vital reminder to constantly acknowledge and support the vulnerable, ensuring that we give to those who have little.
Our commitment is to prepare and deliver both food and love to hungry, homebound seniors and other vulnerable neighbors. While the cornerstone of our work involves providing healthy, sometimes medically tailored meals, it also extends to offering compassion and community to those who might otherwise be overlooked. We strive to balance our appreciation of abundance with an acute awareness of those who have less.
Generosity fosters unity. It’s about more than just providing food; it’s about sharing knowledge and going #BeyondtheMeal. This could include teaching someone to use a tablet to stay in touch with far-away family members as part of our Talking Tech program or offering friendly visits and wellness checks. We also support those who need it most through our Home Sweet Home emergency fund. We find fulfillment in being part of a community that uplifts all its members.
Our donors and volunteers can attest that the real joy of giving provides deep enrichment to both those who receive and those who give. We are sincerely grateful to those who support our mission through donations and volunteering, allowing us to give back to so many in need.
In these troubling times, when many of our neighbors have been displaced by the fires impacting the neighborhoods we serve, let us continue to embrace our mission with the vibrant spirit that defines our City of Angels. As we navigate the balance between what we have and what we share, let us remember that true joy lies in generosity. Together, we can ensure everyone has a portion and a reason to celebrate and thrive.
