“I feel like the fools who dream and who take risks are the ones who change the world.”
Jimmy Gomez
St. Vincent Meals on Wheels is proud to call public servants like US Congressman Jimmy Gomez a friend. The staff, volunteers and our many homebound clients are better because of the support and attention we receive from elected officials like Jimmy Gomez who visited the SVMOW kitchen and joined the tray line, listening to and learning from our staff who prepares and delivers hot meals to many of his constituents in our City of Angels.
Born and raised in Southern California to humble working class, immigrant parents – his father was a bracero, a farmworker and part-time cook, and his mother, a nursing home laundry attendant. Despite his many lofty accomplishments which includes an MA from Harvard University’s Kennedy School, Jimmy often says, “I’m still that kid who worked at Subway and Target.” Our accomplishments aren’t only about us; they mean a lot for many, “It means that there’s still a lot of opportunities for immigrants … It means we’re part of this larger American story.”
Having US Congressman Jimmy Gomez be an active participant in the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels story is what helps us thrive.
